How Big Is India's PPE Market in 2026?

India's PPE market is projected to cross USD 3.2 billion by 2028, growing at a CAGR of 8–10% (Grand View Research, 2024). Safety footwear alone accounts for roughly 30% of total PPE spend in manufacturing and construction sectors (Mordor Intelligence, 2025). The drivers are structural, not cyclical — and they were visible across every conversation at OSH India.

500M+

Industrial workers in India who require PPE under law (Ministry of Labour & Employment, Periodic Labour Force Survey 2023–24)

62M

Construction workers registered under BOCW Act (BOCW Welfare Board Annual Report 2024–25)

The Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, 2020 has tightened employer liability for PPE non-compliance. State labour departments in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka are conducting more frequent inspections (DGFASLI Annual Report, 2025). For procurement heads, BIS certification is no longer a checkbox — it's a liability shield.

Which Indian States Have the Highest Safety Footwear Demand?

Conversations at OSH India confirmed what the procurement data already shows — safety gear demand is concentrated in India's industrial corridors, but tier-2 and tier-3 cities are catching up fast.

State / RegionKey IndustriesEst. Annual Footwear Demand
MaharashtraAuto, pharma, chemicals, construction, ports8–10M pairs
GujaratChemicals, petrochemicals, textiles, ceramics, ports7–9M pairs
Tamil NaduAuto, textiles, IT hardware, heavy engineering6–8M pairs

Uttar PradeshConstruction, sugar, FMCG, infrastructure5–7M pairs
Haryana & PunjabAuto ancillary, steel, rice/wheat processing3–4M pairs
Odisha & JharkhandSteel, mining, aluminium, thermal power3–4M pairs

Estimates based on registered factory workforce (Annual Report, Ministry of Labour & Employment), construction labour registrations (BOCW Welfare Board data), and ESIC enrolment data. These numbers represent replacement cycles of 6–12 months per worker and do not include gumboots, speciality ESD footwear, or the unorganised sector.

Three Days at OSH India: What We Saw on the Floor

300+ exhibiting brands. 9,000+ visitors from 13+ countries. Distributors, dealers, safety officers, procurement heads, and EHS managers from steel, construction, logistics, pharma, chemicals, and engineering — all in Hall 3 of the Bombay Exhibition Centre.

Our stall was busy from the first hour to the last. The three days broke down like this:

Day 1 — Launch & Demos

Unveiled the full nine-model range. Live product demonstrations ran back-to-back. Visitors picked up shoes, tested sole flexibility, compared weights. The Flex and Drift drew the most first-touch interest — buyers weren't expecting a safety shoe to feel that light.

Day 2 — The Busiest Day

One-on-one meetings with distributors, safety officers and procurement heads. Bulk pricing, MOQs, delivery timelines, and territory discussions. Multiple dealers asked to add our full PVC dual density range (Orchid, Virat, Drift) alongside their existing PU stock.

Day 3 — Follow-ups & Samples

Return visits from Day 1 and 2 contacts. Sample handovers. Several distributors placed tentative orders on the spot. The Raptor and Nitro generated the most repeat interest from industrial buyers looking at high-heat and heavy-industry applications.

What Did Komico Launch at OSH India 2026?

Every model is BIS certified — IS 17043:2024 for PVC footwear, IS 15298:2024 for PU leather, and IS 17845:2024 for Phylon. The launch covers four sole technologies: PVC, PU, Phylon, and Nitrile Rubber.

PVC Dual Density Outsole — Orchid, Virat & Drift

Our new PVC dual density range introduces a two-layer outsoleconstruction — a softer inner layer for cushioning and a harder outer layer for abrasion resistance and grip. This bridges the comfort gap between conventional single-mould PVC and PU at a price that makes bulk procurement viable.

ModelWhat It IsBest For
Orchid1.8mm synthetic leather, airmesh lining, steel toe — our first women-friendly fit in the PVC rangePharma, food processing, textiles, electronics assembly
Virat1.8mm synthetic leather, airmesh lining, steel toe — rugged silhouette built for heavy site useConstruction, infrastructure, cement, heavy manufacturing
DriftFlexweave upper, airmesh lining, steel toe — sporty design for workers who value look and fitWarehousing, logistics, light manufacturing, facility management

PVC Single Density with Sweat Absorption — Rock

Single density PVC construction with sweat absorption technology for all-day dryness on hot factory floors and construction sites.

PU Double Density — Raptor & Secure

Premium double-density PU construction with buffalo/Tango grain leather uppers, 200J steel toe caps, and ISI certification under IS 15298 Part 2: 2024.

ModelWhat It IsBest For
RaptorPremium DD PU with 200J steel toe, reflective elements, Femina liningPetrochemicals, steel plants, engineering, supervisory
SecureVersatile PU shoe in Single and Double Density variants, 200J steel toeGeneral manufacturing, multi-site contractors, bulk orders

Phylon (EVA/TPR) — Flex

Ultralight construction with EVA/TPR compound sole and fibre toe cap (100J). ISI certified under IS 17845 Part 2: 2024 — the lightest safety shoe in our range, built for comfort-driven compliance.

ModelWhat It IsBest For
FlexUltralight shoe with fibre toe cap (100J) — the lightest safety shoe in our rangeLong shifts, warehousing, logistics, supervisory roles

Nitrile Rubber — Forge & Nitro

Cemented construction with nitrile rubber soles rated for 300°C contact heat resistance, 200J steel toe caps, anti-static properties, and oil/chemical/fuel resistance. ISI certified under IS 15298 Part 2: 2024.

ModelWhat It IsBest For
Forge300°C contact heat resistance, 200J steel toe, cemented constructionWelding, foundries, metalwork, high-heat environments
Nitro300°C heat resistance, 200J steel toe, anti-static, chemical resistantSteel mills, forging, smelting, chemical processing

With these nine additions, the Komico and Komisafe range now covers 20 models across four sole technologies — giving distributors a single-supplier catalogue that spans from ₹799 entry-level PVC to ₹1,999 high-heat nitrile rubber.

Pre-Launch: Safety Gloves, Welding Machines & Accessories

Beyond footwear, we started the pre-launch of our safety gloves and welding machines with welding accessories. Distributors can now register interest for early supply. Multiple dealers at the stall asked to stock gloves alongside our shoes — a signal that the market wants a one-stop PPE supplier, not fragmented sourcing.

How Did Buyers Respond to Komico's New Safety Shoes?

Three days of live demos, hands-on trials, and direct feedback gave us a clearer picture than any market survey. Here's what we observed:

Flex & Drift — highest trial count

Buyers picked these up first. The weight surprised them. Procurement heads from logistics and warehousing companies said their workers refuse to wear heavy shoes consistently — lightweight models solve a compliance problem, not just a comfort one.

Orchid — unexpected demand signal

Pharma and food processing buyers specifically asked for women-friendly safety footwear. Orchid's fit and sizing drew interest from segments we hadn't fully targeted yet. Multiple enquiries came from pharma units in Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Virat — bulk procurement favourite

Construction contractors and infrastructure companies gravitated toward Virat's rugged build and competitive MRP. The PVC dual density outsole at ₹1,249 positions it as a strong alternative to conventional single-density PVC shoes that cost ₹100–200 less but last half as long.

Raptor & Nitro — repeat interest from heavy industry

Steel plant safety officers and foundry managers came back on Day 2 and 3 after testing these on Day 1. The 300°C contact heat rating on Nitro and Forge, and the 200J steel toe on Raptor, matched their specification sheets. These aren't impulse buys — they're spec-driven procurement decisions.

Forge — welding shop owners' pick

The nitrile rubber sole and cemented construction resonated with welding shop owners and fabrication unit managers. Several asked about custom branding for their workforce — a signal we're tracking for future OEM conversations.

What Are the Key Safety Industry Trends from OSH India 2026?

Beyond our own stall, three days of walking the floor and sitting through OSH Gurukul sessions surfaced patterns that will shape our product and distribution decisions going forward.

01

BIS certification is now the entry ticket

Under the latest IS 17043:2024 and IS 15298:2024 standards, procurement teams are rejecting non-certified samples outright. Safety officers told us they won't even consider shoes without the ISI mark — the regulatory risk is too high. This is a permanent shift, not a trend.

02

Comfort drives compliance, compliance drives volume

Workers wear safety shoes for 8–12 hours a day. If the shoe is heavy, hot, or stiff, workers take them off. Procurement heads are now selecting for comfort because it directly impacts PPE compliance rates on the shop floor. Lightweight models like Flex and Drift aren't premium features — they're compliance tools.

03

Distributors want one-catalogue, multi-category supply

Dealers told us they lose margin and time managing 4–5 PPE suppliers for shoes, gloves, vests, and welding gear. Multiple distributors asked if they could order our full range — footwear plus gloves plus welding — on a single invoice. This is the clearest market validation for our category expansion.

04

Tier-2 and tier-3 demand is accelerating

Enquiries weren't just from Mumbai, Pune, and Ahmedabad. We met dealers from Nagpur, Indore, Coimbatore, Visakhapatnam, Jamshedpur, and Raipur. As industrial clusters grow outside metros, safety footwear demand is decentralising. Distribution reach — not just product range — will decide market share.

05

Delivery speed decides the order, not just the price

Multiple dealers said they've lost end-customers because their current supplier couldn't deliver within 7–10 days. Stock availability and dispatch reliability are now as important as MRP. This reinforced our investment in ready-stock inventory at our Sonipat facility.

What's Next for Komico After OSH India 2026?

OSH India wasn't a one-off event for us — it reset our roadmap.

✓
Distribution expansion. New distributor partnerships being finalised across Western, Southern, and Eastern India. We're prioritising tier-2 cities where demand is growing fastest.
✓
Full gloves & welding launch. Safety gloves and welding machines with accessories are planned for full market launch in early 2027. Distributors who registered interest at OSH India will get early supply.
✓
Product feedback → next models. Stall feedback is already with our design and production team at our factory in Kundli, Sonipat. Upcoming models will reflect what buyers and end-users asked for — lighter soles, wider size range, more colour options.
✓
20 models and counting. With nine new launches, our range now covers 20 safety shoe models across PU, PVC, Phylon, and Nitrile Rubber. The goal is to be the single-catalogue supplier that distributors don't need to supplement.

To everyone who visited our stall, tried our shoes, shared feedback or placed an enquiry — thank you. To Informa Markets and the OSH India team — thank you for a well-run show. See you at OSH India 2027.
